Moi and Miss "S"

Couple of pics during the recent cold spell. Miss "S" recently has declined many invitations to walk the trails. I think she's calculated that the vague possibility that something interesting will jump out in front of her isn't worth the pain on her tender tootsies. She has the instincts of a barn cat and the constitution of a wuspus.
Thanks to "you know who" for the photos.

Miss "S" Adds to her Airmiles

When faced with no other choice she takes to air to cross the stream! She might consider starting her leap from the bank rather than in the middle of the water! Jeesh!

No damned way!

Our recent rains collect in low spots on the trails. Miss "S" does not swim. She will either fly over or wait for the fairy to carry her.

Huh?

I sit on guard for thee...

Bet you're getting tired of portraits of Miss "S", eh? Well, too bad. The lands around us don't exactly abound with wildlife so this lady provides the entertainment and focal point on the trails.

You've heard of Flying Squirrels...

...well, here's Miss "S" with her aerobatics. Why walk through the cold water in the stream when she can just fly over it?

Miss "S" as Pole Cat

I'm not sure whether she considers herself a scarecrow or a real crow, but there she sits, surveying her domain (that she lets us use) waiting for something to dare to move.

Miss "S" Rides the Rails #5

Well, she's not exactly "riding the rails" but what the heck. Yet another photo of the furrball.

What's to say? She poses. I click. Shurr is purrty. (This was August 2011)

Riding the Rails 1 & 2 & 3

End of long and exciting day. Snow is all gone except for in the shadows and "stuff" is starting to show some life. Here, Miss "S" is deep in thought about something... either that or she's content to have her paws on something other than sopping wet, cold muck!

Approximately 69 days later (Apr 24, 2011 - July 2, 2011) this flat, dormant field has exploded into a vernal jungle of mixed grasses, flowers, ferns, shrubs, etc., in which thousands of small animals, insects and birds go about their business. Except for the horrendous black, deer and horse flies, and squadrons of the most persistent mosquitos on the planet, this New Brunswick land is a paradise.

And then on August 18, 2011 Miss "S" struck another pose on the same fence rail. Another few inches of vegetation and we won't be able to see her at all!

Striking The Pose - Again

Hope my doting on Miss "S" isn't boring you too badly. When we're out for an evening walk on the trails it's hard not to be taken by her regal poses.

Miss "S" Takes a Break

Time out from her patrol.

Daring whatever moved to do it again!

Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to see and smell the world through her senses?

Waiting for Spring Flowers too!

Spring is taking its time this year... except for the pesky black flies and dandelions, of course. Miss "S" surveys HER territory on her daily walkabouts, only occasionally forgetting there could be a coyote or fox lurking in the shadows. Hers is a one-track mind - "if it moves, or even hints it might move, I will follow" is her modus operandi.

Olympian!

Here's Miss "S" in mid-flight over our creek. We have plans to build a small bridge over this waterway since it has water in it all year round but until then clomping through it in rubber boots is the best we can do - except to take to the air like she does!

Cool, clear, water

Stopping by the local watering hole (of which she has her choice of dozens at this time of year). Considering the plight of much of the world, we're damned lucky to have cool, clear water pure enough to drink all over the place. Mark my words... wars will be fought over this stuff in the not too distant future.

Letting It All Hang Out

Like the rest of us... waiting for spring to start!

Anticipation of Spring 4

Takes but one little chickadee to capture her undivided attention. I swear we could set fire to the fence she's sitting on and she wouldn't notice.
